Truck Windshield – Tips for Replacement and Protection

It is a common sight to see trucks on the national or inter-state highways. Trucks are essential to pick up and deliver products for all sorts of companies like automobile, canned food manufacturing and many more and the products have to be delivered, in time. Many companies rely heavily on trucks. Though there are many other modes of transport, certainly trucks occupy a prominent place in the transportation of various products of different companies.

It is left to the truck driver to perform a thorough inspection of trucks and their parts to check whether they are all in good working condition and this has to be ensured before the truck is taken for its purpose. Needless to say, the windshield of the truck is a very important part, as it is the window of the truck driver to the approaching road and hence has to be in good condition.

One of the most common repairs faced by the trucks is that of windshield. Trucks, than any other vehicle on the road, cover high mileage during their life, and so, they tend to hit the highway ever so often. Highways are always subject to high speeds and rubble and ultimately, the windshields are the worst affected part and develop cracks and chips.

If, however, the crack is large enough such that it has to be replaced, it keeps the truck off the road for a few days, which is a loss for the truck owner, in addition to the cost of replacement of the windshield. Hence, the truck windshields should be maintained well to avoid such commercial losses.

A replacement of the windshield can cost anything from three hundred to five hundred dollars, whereas, a crack repair of the windshield may cost only around forty dollars. Moreover, replacement of the windshield consumes a lot of time, as compared to repairing it and as far as trucks are involved, time is money. Keeping the truck off the road results in more loss of revenue and so, it is wise to repair the windshield crack and chip than to replace the windshield itself.

Replacement takes one or two days of time whereas; repairing takes only twenty to thirty minutes. The truck fleet owner can make his small contribution to the good of the environment by repairing the windshield and avoiding replacement because windshield glass cannot be recycled.
