Repair Windshield Crack at Ease

There cannot be a dispute on the fact that windshield is the most important part of the car that takes care of the safety of the passengers in it and a crack on it can be highly frustrating. Crack on the windshield may happen due to several reasons but the most common one is due to the flying debris on the road.

It would be quite frustrating and when the damage is a considerable one, the expenses can be proportionately more. Many people are of the opinion that a small crack on the windshield needs the entire windshield to be replaced but there are many repair kits with which anyone can set right the crack. It is possible to fix small cracks on the car with the fraction of the cost of entire replacement.

Typically, a car windshield is made up of a laminate of two layers of glass with a polymer resin between them. This is to give the glass a great strength because in the event of an accident, the resin holds the pieces of glasses together, thus preventing injury due to broken glass pieces.

The layered structure of the windshield is the main cause of developing cracks in them and since there are two layers, when a crack develops, only one layer is damaged and the other one stays intact. This means that it is possible to make the windshield stable and stop further damage to the windshield, so that the entire windshield need not be replaced.

But this may not happen always. If the crack has gone to the extent of damaging more than one layer, replacement of the windshield would be inevitable. Another situation where replacement is necessary is, when the crack is positioned right at the centre of line of vision of the driver and the repercussions would be worse.

Windshield cracks have to be set right as soon as possible, otherwise there is every chance of the crack spreading fast across the screen due to the pressure of the air pushing against the glass, while driving. If left unattended, the crack may eventually result in shattering of the entire windshield which is highly dangerous.

Windshield crack repair is as simple as injecting a resin into the crack to fill any space and is cured with a special light that makes it hard. There are many windshield repair kits ranging from one time use to large professional kits.
